The Corporation of St. George [CSG] recently held their UNESCO Teacher Appreciation Day event, honouring Todd Fox, Cindy Weeks, Gladstone Thompson, Lisa Swan, Gail Smith and Julie Foggo.

At the event, St. George Mayor George Dowling III said, “I would like to welcome you to the World Heritage Site the Town of St. George. We are gathered here today to show appreciation to our hard-working teachers who are guiding and nurturing our next generation of Bermudians.

“Even though the official day for UNESCO World Teacher Day was on October 5th, the CSG felt it was necessary to still pay homage to the teachers.

“Normally the CSG would honour a teacher from each school and our initial idea was to honour a teacher from each school who went above and beyond for their students during COVID.

“But after careful consideration we decided to honour all of them; as one principal highlighted, all the teachers performed great for their students.

“During the COVID pandemic, our teachers went above and beyond to continuing to educate our youth. Today to honour our teachers, I would like to present a small plaque as a token of appreciation from the Corporation of St. George to the principals of each of the eastern schools.

“In addition, the CSG has collaborated with Sweet Saak bakery, an East End business, to deliver a tray of goodies to the schools for the teaching staff of each school to enjoy.”

The principals who received plaques included:

  • Mr. Todd Fox – Francis Patton
  • Mrs. Cindy Weeks – Harrington Sound Primary
  • Mr. Gladstone Thompson – St. David’s Primary
  • Ms. Lisa Swan – Clearwater Middle School
  • Ms. Gail Smith – St. George’s Preparatory School
  • Ms. Julie Foggo – East End Primary
