St. George’s Foundation was registered as a Bermuda charity in 1997 and in December 2000 the Historic Town of St. George and its Related Fortifications were deemed to be of “Outstanding Universal Value” and designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The Historic Town of St. George and its Related Fortifications are an outstanding Bermuda national treasure for culture, heritage, education, the environment and the economy. The St. George’s Foundation’s aim is to raise the profile of Bermuda’s World Heritage Site at home and abroad. We seek collaborative agencies and interested parties and engage with them to look after and protect our island’s World Heritage Site for future generations.

Our Mission

To support Bermuda’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Historic Town of St. George and its Related Fortifications, through Collaboration, Education, and Awareness.

Collaboration

We work with the community and key partners including the Department of Parks, Corporation of St. George, Department of Culture and Bermuda National Trust, to protect, restore, preserve and promote Bermuda’s UNESCO World Heritage Site Town of St. George and Related Fortifications.

Education

By showcasing heritage sites to students, residents and visitors through lectures, tours and activities, we are building a connected community to the built heritage assets within the World Heritage Site.

Awareness

We continue our efforts to preserve and restore the wider parts of the World Heritage Site and inform the public, both here and abroad, about everything to do with the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the work of The St. George’s Foundation.

Governance

The St. George’s Foundation is registered with the Bermuda’s Charities Commission as a charitable organization under Charity License #454 (on February 24th, 1997) and as a Company Limited by Guarantee (in 2019).
